Description
Chapala on the shore of Lake Chapala is nearing its 500th birthday. The charm of an old Mexican community, (population: around 16,000) old world ways and hospitality, along with many attractions to visit make this an ideal place to vacation. This is part of the largest expatriate community in the world. English is spoken in many shops. Exploring the town and surrounding Lakeside area is good fun. Walking around the town will provide some education about the cultural differences as well as some excersise. Local bus service is good, cheap and fun. When the play and exploring are over for the day, relax in the comfortable surroundings of Meester Gringo's B & B. Watch cable TV in the common area or in your room, use the free high-speed Internet, or just kick back with a cup of coffee or tea and chat, read or take some sun on the patio to watch the hummingbirds grab a sip or two at each inviting blossom. All of this at budget rates.
Amenities
Nice rooms with comfortable beds, cable TV, and large closets . One with a private bath. Secure parking off street. A large common area for relaxing and chat. An outdoor smoking area also. Laundry facilities feature a modern automatic washer, solar powered drying (clotheslines) along with a "Mexican Maytag", (for gringos, that is a washboard.) You've all seen bedrooms, these are nice, with good beds (matrimonial size, double), dressers and large closets. A TV in each room, cable has over 60 channels, at least 5 in English and several movie channels with films in English and Spanish sub-titles (a good way to learn some Spanish). One room has a private bath (shower. I'm a good cook and your breakfasts can be from my special recipes from mexican style oatmeal, eggs ala goldenrod, chili aquiles, fresh, hot home-made biscuits with local honey and butter (real) to an old fashioned American favorite bacon and eggs. The bacon is smoked, (thick and lean,no nitrates and delicious). The eggs are local and tasty. The hashbrowns are from local potatoes, hand shredded and cooked to perfection. Toast from home made bread or hot biscuits. Don't come to Mexico to diet, wait 'til you get home for that. (This is a vacation, after all)
Activities
If you enjoy good restaurants, there are many in the area including some very good seafood restaurants on the waterfront and night clubs along the malecon' (waterfront walkway). Have a drink and watch people or dance your bootie off. Good taxi service is available if you over do it. We don't have any conference facilities unless you count sitting on the sofa and chatting, (but isn't that why you're taking a vacation?) Sleep late if you like, I'll make you a good breakfast after you've had your shower! Then you can go exploring the Lakeside area. Things to do include: Golf, tennis, walking, hiking, biking, shopping, visiting nearby communities, viewing the lake, live theater, horseback riding, and learning Spanish.
